Education Program

Dear (Name),

As the Director of the Education Program, I am excited to welcome you to the Kingsborough Community College family. I know that you will benefit greatly from the time that you spend here and the experiences you will gain in your journey to becoming educators for our diverse classrooms, schools, and communities. In the Education Program, we are extremely proud of the work we do in preparing candidates to become teachers of children at the early childhood and elementary levels. We recognize the unique responsibilities that go along with educating teachers who will work within diverse communities and who will commit to promoting high-quality education for all children.

As an education major, you have a choice among three professional, career-oriented Associate’s degree concentrations that provide you with the credentials to work in schools as a paraprofessional or teaching assistant, while continuing your studies at one of our partner 4-year colleges. Our three concentrations are: 
1) Early Childhood Education, Birth-2^nd Grade, and  2) Childhood Education, 1^st-6^th Grade, and
3) PreK-12^th Grade Special Education.

Throughout your journey at Kingsborough, you will work with faculty who are also experts in many academic disciplines to provide you with an interdisciplinary curriculum suited for our early childhood and childhood education programs. Our faculty provide classroom instruction, facilitate fieldwork experiences in local schools, and provide valuable mentoring for you. In addition, we offer many teaching workshops to support your growth as an educator. I encourage you to utilize all the resources that are available to you.

I urge you to get involved in extra-curricular activities on our campus such as the student-led Education Club and the NYC MenTeach program.
