The Child Development Center at Kingsborough

Our Philosophy:

We believe that children who develop strong self-concepts and who are given rich experiences in all areas of development are most successful both in school and later in life. Our goal is to instill a love of learning in all children while embracing our diversity in a safe, respectful and supportive environment.

We value and celebrate each family’s uniqueness and their cultural, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. We strive to develop strong, warm, trusting relationships with children and their families. Positive relationships among all children and adults promote each child’s sense of individual worth and belonging to a community.

We believe adults are also active learners. We are committed to supporting the education of Kingsborough’s students who are learning about children and families. We provide them with opportunities to work directly with children and families under the guidance of professional educators in the Child Development Center who serve as role models and mentors, in a high-quality early care education setting.

Our Mission Statement:

As an active and integral part of  Kingsborough Community College, it is the mission of the Child Development Center to function as a model early care and education program by providing a nurturing environment for children to grow and develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally.  The Child Development Center is committed to encouraging a strong sense of community for both children and their families.  We also serve the larger college community by offering educational and work study experiences to adult students enrolled in Kingsborough Community College, serving as a demonstration and observation site.

We are here to support you, our student parents, so that you can fully participate in college life and fulfill our educational goals.  We work hand-in-hand with families to build positive relationships and offer support by providing workshops and advice on topics such as challenging behaviors and developmental milestones as children grow and develop.
