Message to the Campus

Civil Discourse Guidance
Tuesday, September 17, 2024
Dear Faculty and Staff,
We hope that you have had a great start to the Fall 2024 semester, and look forward
to seeing you at our convocation at 3 p.m. next Thursday, September 19 in room U219/220,
where you’ll hear updates on our Middle States reaccreditation process, current year
college finances, and most importantly, a presentation about an opportunity to provide
initial input into goals for the College’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
For now, we are writing to you about our goals for successfully navigating freedom
of expression and civil discourse over the next several months, and our hope that
each of you will find ways to support this community and, especially, to provide opportunities
for our students to engage and learn from one another.
We invite you to join us in coming together, embracing our diverse community, and
respecting one another’s differences. The values of our college speak to the civility,
acceptance, appreciation, and support of individual differences as well as fostering
greater inclusion and equity for each member of the community. Given this, the College
will not tolerate any form of discrimination; concerns and allegations regarding potential
discrimination may be submitted for investigation through the CUNY University-Wide Discrimination and Retaliation Reporting Portal.
Further, we must protect the safety of all in the community, and prevent disruptions
to our educational mission by adhering to CUNY’s Rules and Regulations for the Maintenance
of Public Order, known as The Henderson Rules. Our college is committed to providing our students with the appropriate resources
and supports to foster their academic, career and personal success. To better support
our students, we have provided updated guidance regarding the responsibilities of
KCC faculty and staff members who serve as student club advisors in the Registered Student Organizations Manual
Thank you, in advance, for your efforts to support civil discourse and freedom of
expression within the Kingsborough community this year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Suri Duitch Dr. Sharon
