New Full-Time Faculty for Fall 2024
Kirt Bowen
Assistant Professor | EMS-Paramedic
Kingsborough Community College welcomes Kirt Bowen back to KCC, this time as a full-time assistant professor in the Department of Allied Health, Mental Health and Human Services, where he’ll be teaching courses as part of the emergency medical services (EMS)-paramedic program. Kirt was part of the team that secured full accreditation for KCC's paramedic program, which he considers his biggest professional accomplishment to date, and served as program director from 2014 to 2019.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Kirt moved to the United States in 1997 to explore new career opportunities after serving in the military in his home country. The first in his family to graduate from college, he holds an associate of applied science in paramedic studies from LaGuardia Community College, a bachelor of science in physician assistant studies from Touro College, and a master of public administration in emergency and disaster management from Metropolitan College of New York.
In addition to being a paramedic, his extensive experience includes roles as a physician assistant in emergency medicine, critical care, and correctional medicine. “I have an interest in doing the best that I can for those who are ill or injured,” he noted. Kirt has also taught at LaGuardia Community College and Borough of Manhattan Community College.
Kirt brings a unique perspective to the classroom, having faced and overcome the challenges common to many new immigrants in pursuing his career goals. He believes his students will benefit from his journey and looks forward to working with every student to help them succeed in becoming paramedics. “I started the same way that they are, which is, getting my associate degree as a paramedic and then moving on within the medical field.”
