General Education Assessment

In addition to assessing student learning within the programs, Kingsborough Community College is also dedicated to ensuring that all students, regardless of their academic program, are developing general education knowledge and skills. CUNY targets these skills through the Pathways Common Core, a set of course requirements that ensure that each student receives a breadth of common knowledge in addition to specialized knowledge in their major. Many departments offering Pathways courses have a General Education Assessment Liaison who leads the planning and implementation of the assessment projects for evaluating students’ achievement of General Education learning outcomes in their department’s courses.

You can find more information about the General Education assessment cycle and process here.

Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC)

Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) is a CUNY-wide initiative designed to support students in using writing to improve student learning, and using learning to improve student writing. The program trains faculty to incorporate the WAC framework into their courses to best support students, and provides additional support for students to develop their writing skills within their discipline.  This program is able to evaluate students’ writing skills outside of the Pathways courses as they move through their degree program.

Civic Engagement

Civic engagement is a cornerstone of the Kingsborough experience. Courses throughout the curriculum that have been dedicated as Civic Engagement courses contain a common reflective assignment, which is assessed using a common rubric.
