Think you don’t want a mentor? Think again!
"Show me a successful individual and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don’t care what you do for a living—if you do it well I’m sure there was someone cheering you on or showing the way. A mentor." Denzel Washington
Most successful people can attribute their success, in part, to a mentor. This includes
people in business, music, sports—people in pretty much any career you can imagine!
So what is a mentor?
Think of a mentor as a guide or coach—someone with a bit more experience who can help you navigate your way. Mentoring often starts long before you enter your chosen career. In fact, you may already have someone in your life that you consider to be a mentor. Or maybe you're looking for one!
Kingsborough offers two mentoring programs: KCC Connections Student Mentoring Program and the MRC Peer Mentoring Program. KCC Connections matches faculty, staff and alumni to students who would like a little guidance as they move through college and toward their careers. MRC Peer Mentoring matches students to fellow students who have already achieved success at KCC. In both programs, students set goals and regularly meet with mentors who will listen to concerns, share their experiences, and help students create their own paths.
We hope you will take advantage of one of these mentoring opportunities! It could make a world of difference as you move through Kingsborough and beyond!
