Valedictorian Mariami Kochiashvili

Mariami Kochiashvili

Mariami Kochiashvili
MAJOR: BIOLOGY

Originally from Georgia, Mariami Kochiashvili moved to the United States in 2022 to follow her dream of becoming a doctor. She enrolled at Kingsborough Community College as a biology major and quickly adjusted to life in a new country with the support of the college community.

Mariami served as vice president of scholarship for KCC's Phi Theta Kappa chapter and became a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She also volunteered as a peer mentor and created an open educational resource, a vertebrate anatomy dissection guide for general biology classes.

Through the CUNY Research Scholars Program, Mariami conducted research on managing weight with nutraceuticals. In the future, she hopes to improve the lives of those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

Mariami's dedication resulted in a perfect 4.0 GPA, several Dean's List appearances, a Dean's List scholarship, and the honor of representing the class of 2024 as KCC's valedictorian.

Salutatorian Maged Ba Qatyan

Salutatorian Maged Ba Qatyan

Maged Ba Qatyan
MAJOR: BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Born and raised in Saudi Arabia to Yemeni parents, Maged Ba Qatyan dreams of becoming an entrepreneur. Faced with challenges as a non-citizen in his birth country, he applied for a visa in several countries in search of a better life, but was turned down by all until the United States accepted him in 2021.

He enrolled at Kingsborough in 2022 after searching for top community colleges and learning that the college had been named "best community college in New York" by Niche. He started out in the ESL program to hone his English skills.

Maged became more active on campus as his confidence and academic skills grew. He held various leadership roles including president of the Muslim Student Association Club, senator in the Student Government, and treasurer of the Business Club. He was also involved in the Entrepreneurship Club and International Student Club.

Last fall, his academic excellence earned him a spot on the Dean's List. He served as a co-master of ceremonies for the Dean’s List award ceremony, where he spoke in front of a large audience.

Maged graduates this June with a degree in business administration and a perfect 4.0 GPA. Saying that "Kingsborough is where dreams begin," he will represent the class of 2024 as salutatorian.
