The David B. Silver Scholarship

Poetry Competition 2026

Student entries will be accepted beginning Monday, March 23, 2026

Deadline for submissions is Sunday, April 26, 2026

Rules for Competition:

  • Maximum two (2) entries per student
  • Only KCC students earning college credits are eligible to participate
  • Poems must be 50 lines or less in length
  • Each poem must be labeled with student’s full name, address, telephone number, and email address
  • All entries must be emailed to the following address: [email protected]

Criteria:

  • Originality of perspective
  • Appropriateness of English language, form, and content
  • Evocative trigger of emotional reaction
  • Economical use of language

Awards:

  • First Prize: $500
  • Second Prize: $300
  • Third Prize: $200

The David B. Silver Scholarship Committee, the members of which are all faculty associated with the Creative Writing Program, will evaluate all entries, select and notify the winners, and liaison with the Kingsborough Awards Committee.

Awards will be announced during the KCC Awards Night, Wednesday June 10, 2026. Winners will be requested to attend the Awards Night ceremony to receive their prizes and plaques in person.
