Dr. Natasha L. Edwards, Ed.D., LMHC-D is the Dean of Students at Kingsborough Community College, part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. In this role, she provides strategic leadership for a broad range of student support services, including Athletics, the Men’s Resource Center, Student Life, CUNY EDGE, the Child Development Center, the Office of Access-Ability Services, Student Union & Intercultural Center, Access Resource Center, Office of Community Standards & Judicial Affairs, Military & Veteran Affairs, TRIO, and Student Wellness Services which consists of Counseling Center, Women’s Center, Wellness Center and Health Center. Through this work, Dr. Edwards fosters a campus environment that promotes students’ personal, social, and intellectual development, ensuring access to holistic support systems addressing both academic and non-academic needs. Her leadership emphasizes equity, access, and the transformative power of education—especially for students navigating complex barriers to persistence and completion.
A dedicated higher education leader and licensed clinical psychotherapist, Dr. Edwards brings over 20 years of experience supporting diverse students and communities. Her professional interests focus on student development, equity-minded leadership, and how institutions can better serve students facing structural challenges such as economic insecurity, mental health needs, and barriers to belonging. Drawing on her clinical background, she applies a trauma-informed, student-centered approach that integrates wellness, advocacy, and accountability across student affairs.
Dr. Edwards holds a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology from New York University, a Master’s degree in Women’s & Gender Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from Johns Hopkins University, where her research focused on urban leadership and support services that increase students’ sense of belonging—leading to improved college retention and completion. She has also completed advanced clinical training in psychodynamic and trauma-focused therapy, emphasizing healing generational trauma and dismantling systemic barriers within marginalized communities.
Before transitioning to higher education leadership, Dr. Edwards served vulnerable populations as a hospital administrator and HRA shelter director, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and complex health challenges. Committed to mentoring emerging professionals and advancing equity in education, Dr. Edwards frequently presents on student success, leadership, and social justice topics. At KCC, she is passionate about creating educational spaces where students are not only supported but empowered to realize their full potential.
