CompTIA A+ Computer Technician Program

This program is geared towards individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in information technology. Courses will be held online and will cover the fundamentals of PC hardware, software and peripherals. Topics will include hardware and software troubleshooting, operating systems, operational procedures, security, virtualization and cloud computing. The program will also prepare students for the CompTIA A+ certification exam. Courses will begin Spring 2022

CUNY Fatherhood (CFA) TASC/HSE Preparation & College/Career Preparation
TASC/HSE Prep: 16-week High School Equivalency
College/Career Prep: 10-week college and career prep program

Both the TASC Prep (16-weeks) and College/Career Prep (10-week) programs are free for residents of  New York  City, specifically fathers, ages 18  to 30. Both programs offer academic support, mentorship, counseling, and workshops focused on communication, conflict resolution, vocational exploration, and parenting skills. CFA promotes responsible parenting, college readiness, and work among unemployed and underemployed fathers.

Eligibility: Must be a current or expecting biological father, New York City resident, and 18-30 years old.

Design Works

DesignWorks is a User Experience (UX) Design training program. UX Design is a multi-disciplinary approach to user/consumer engagement using psychology, human-centered design, and visual design to enhance how a person responds to a product, whether a website, mobile application, wearable technology, or print materials. Focused on developing real-world technical skills and competencies, DesignWorks melds classroom instruction, project-based learning through the development of professional portfolios, and industry expertise through internships. Participants are prepared for careers as UX Designers, whether they are working as independent contractors or as employees within larger companies.

Eligibility: Must be 18 years or older; NYC resident; eligible to work in the United States; have a high school diploma or equivalent; access to a computer and a stable internet connection; attended an information session.

HealthPath

HealthPath is a healthcare training program that helps participants develop a career growth mindset so they have the tools and knowledge to advance within the healthcare industry. The program consists of 4 unique occupational skills training classes: Home Health Aide, HealthPath Bridge (Mental Health First Aid and CPR), Community Health Worker and Certified Nursing Assistant. Students can enter at any point along the path, or stay enrolled for the entire 40 week program.

Eligibility: At least 18 years old; high school diploma, or equivalent; eligible to work in the US; TABE at a 9.0, or above; have access to a computer and a stable internet connection.

Job Corps Scholars Program

The Job Corps Scholars Program aims to provide new & innovative ways to deliver education and career training in order to create a pipeline of talent for eligible 18–24-year-olds with their HSE,GED or TASC.  All Job Corps Scholars participants will receive free academic and career training in a Kingsborough Community College certification program in the fields of either business, healthcare, or trade. Scholars will also obtain individualized personal and employment counseling to assist with navigation throughout program aiming to supporting student performance,  certification completion, the ability to earn transferable academic credit hours and employment outcomes.  

Eligibility: 18-24 years old, have a high school diploma, live in NYC/Tri-state

Maritime Technology PRE-Apprenticeship Program

This program prepares students for entry into the Maritime Technology Apprenticeship Program (MTAP), the first DOL-approved apprenticeship program for marine mechanics in the nation. This PRE-apprenticeship program is geared for students who are interested in entering the Maritime industry and MTAP, but whose academic skills are not where they should be. The program pays for up to 16 Kingsborough college credits.

Program eligibility: at least 18 years old; high school diploma or equivalent; enrolled at Kingsborough; eligible to work in the US; interested in the maritime industry; attended an Information Session (click here to register).


UX Microcredential

At Kingsborough, we have bundled classes in our User Experience (UX) Design training program to create an 8-week UX Microcredential program. Earners of the UX Designer Badge have developed the entry-level skills needed to create digital interfaces that respect Heuristics, Design Thinking, Gestalt, and Accessibility and Interaction Design principles. They are competent in conducting research with users, mapping qualitative data, gaining insights to generate inspiration, designing sketched and digital clickable prototypes.
