CUNY Fatherhood Academy

Students from the CUNY Fatherhood Academy receive a gift of kindness and a message of service.

Recently students from the CUNY Fatherhood Academy were presented gifts by the men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, Chapter also known as the "Brooklyn Sigma's." Continuing an annual tradition, members presented the students with gifts and talked about their experiences in a "brotherhood" and the similarities between a fraternity and the bonds Fatherhood Academy participants can build with each other. Program Director Kymel Yard spoke to the students about the importance of service and supporting each other, while also highlighting how the members of the Brooklyn Sigma's are not just representations of who they can be as men of color but mentors and connections to help them grow personally and professionally. Each member of the fraternity told a brief bit about themselves and their connection to the fraternity as well as if they were fathers and had children. The students were also given words of encouragement by President Schrader, who championed the relationship and helped foster the connections for this annual tradition. The students who attended left encouraged and empowered, many with not just gifts for their children but business cards and valuable insights. All were grateful and excited to share with their children and families.
