Biography

I help students see reading and writing as processes through the diverse classes I teach. It is important to have our students move forward in their academic careers where they do not feel emotionally detached from the material being used in the classroom. For this reason I find that in my writing pedagogy style, I tend to use comic-book references in order to gage how to proceed in helping students understand the connection between non-traditional texts and required readings for the course. . I have seen in my classes that with careful scaffolding comic-books are an effective tool for teaching writing and creating equity on a variety of levels. Essentially, teaching has enabled me to learn from my students as much as they learn from the courses I teach. Comic book references now lead to the discussion of the films based on those characters, the complexities of the relationships and how the decisions made by these people impact their identity and the identity of others.
