Does Reading Matter?
Are you seeking new strategies for cultivating or supporting deep reading in your
students?
Organized by the Faculty Initiative on Teaching Reading (FITR) and facilitated by
Gregory Bruno (English), the “Does Reading Matter?” FIG will explore the role and
application of Dialogic Practice—an approach aimed at navigating the complexities
of student identity, teaching, and learning—in cultivating deep reading practices
across our college curricula. This semester, readings and discussion will center on
transactional reading theory, reading and student identity, and strategizing pedagogical
approaches to supporting deep reading both online and in-person.
