KELI Student Testimonials

"I feel incredibly lucky to be learning English in the KELI program. We learn everything from grammar, reading, and writing to listening and speaking, and more. From the very first class, it was clear that our dedicated and inspiring teacher puts her whole heart into her work. She doesn’t just teach the language — she motivates, supports, and truly believes in every student’s potential.

Her lessons are always well-organized, engaging, and full of positive energy. She explains even difficult grammar topics in a simple and creative way, and she always makes sure that every student understands. Her kindness, patience, and sincere care for our progress make every class special.

What’s also amazing is that the support doesn’t stop with just one teacher. The English program at the college has other instructors who are always willing to help. If you need extra help with grammar or want to ask questions after class, there is always someone who will take the time to explain and guide you.

Thanks to this incredible team of teachers, I feel much more confident in my English and excited to keep learning. If you’re looking for a warm, supportive, and truly professional learning environment — this is the perfect place to study."

"The more you know, the more confident you become. In my opinion, the Kingsborough English Language Institute (KELI) is a great and effective place to improve your English language. Teachers are amiable and knowledgeable. The classmates that come from different countries are interesting and reliable. There are a lot of activities to help you learn English that aren't so boring. Consequently, if you want to learn English, KELI is an excellent place that you can choose.

First of all, my teacher teaches a lot of useful lessons every day: grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing. In addition, we gave lesson-related presentations and had grammar and vocabulary tests during this semester. I like the way she teaches. Therefore, I learn and improve my English level one by one. For example, I usually get cold feet when I speak in front of the classroom. Now, I still feel nervous when doing presentations, but I know I am getting better.

Moreover, I have met more people since coming to the school. Some of my classmates are from the same country as me. Others come from Turkey, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Tahiti. During the class, we all shared our opinions and experiences. Therefore, we put things in perspective and think more deeply and positively. Furthermore, I have made a few friends. We talk and discuss our own lives, such as our cultures, our education, and our long-term plans. It’s also a good way to practice our English!

Besides classroom lessons, we have opportunities to learn outside the classroom. We visited the Intrepid Museum to learn more historical information about WWII, and went to the area around the Manhattan Bridge for a picnic. It's a good way to make good relationships with our classmates and make learning English more interesting. In addition, we play games and have debates with classmates in the school.

KELI is the best place for people who want to learn and improve their English skills."

"I have been learning English at the Kingsborough English Language Institute (KELI) for 3 months now, and honestly, I have felt a huge difference. When I first came to this country, I didn't understand anything people were saying. It was frustrating, and I felt lost, but thanks to the instructors, their effective learning methods, and most of all, the confidence they've given me, I started to improve. Now, I understand much better, and I'm learning to speak more clearly and confidently. I feel more motivated and more confident, and I will keep getting better."

"A space of freedom, a temple of knowledge, and a place of opportunities — these are the words I would use to describe my experiences in the KELI program.

During the ESL lessons, I came to understand the true meaning of education from many perspectives. I explored various aspects of international cultural studies — not only from a theoretical point of view, but also through practical experiences.

Our lessons brought together people from diverse cultural backgrounds. We shared our experiences and valuable insights with one another, which created a rich, collaborative environment.

The most remarkable part was our teacher, who took us on a journey through the English language and American literature. It was one I will never forget.

Beyond improving our language skills and completing engaging exercises, we discussed literature, psychology, cinematography, cultural studies, and gastronomy.
Each student had the opportunity to express their abilities and discover new interests, as the lessons were incredibly diverse and filled with fun, interactive activities.
Notably, we also used various books, TV series, and original teaching methods that were always enjoyable and results-driven.

Our ESL lessons reflected vibrant diversity. Field trips to remarkable places fostered cultural immersion and hands-on learning experiences.
The program beautifully combined both theoretical knowledge and practical application — something I truly appreciated.
I always had the chance to write about topics I loved. As a literature enthusiast, I was encouraged to compose poems and write book reviews.
We also prepared for important academic milestones, such as the TOEFL exam and the creation of essential application materials for my master’s degree.

The environment — and the people within it — became a powerful source of motivation.
The staff members were always attentive and supportive."

"I am truly grateful to the KELI program for providing me with such valuable knowledge, which I am already putting into practice — and will continue to use in the future.

My language journey has been a long one. I have been studying English when I was twelve years old. When I told my stepfather – who used to be an English professor – that I was interested in learning the language more in depth, he became very excited and started teaching me. It wasn’t easy or fun, but it was incredibly productive. Thanks to his knowledge, I was well on my way to where I am today, and I am truly grateful for that.

Since then, KELI has helped me further adapt, survive, and improve my English. I started at level 4, and step-by-step, I’ve almost reached native-like fluency. After 18 months in the program, I can now communicate with anyone without hesitation, which is incredible. Language has given me many opportunities. A little knowledge can greatly increase your chances of improving your life; it all depends on you.

I am deeply grateful to the entire program, my teachers, classmates, and the staff, who have become like family to me. I would recommend KELI to anyone who wants to improve their English."
