avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance.
At Kingsborough Community College, sustainability is more than a buzzword.
Here’s what we’re doing for a better and more sustainable future for all:
We have recycling bins in the cafeteria where you can separate your recyclables and trash.
Reducing Single-Use Water Bottles
We’ve installed filtered water bottle refilling stations around campus to help reduce minimize single-use plastic water bottles.
Our energy-efficient classrooms and offices use motion-sensor lights that turn off if they don’t detect someone is in the room.
Encouraging Sustainable Transportation
Bike racks are located throughout the college for those who want to pedal in.
Many of our bathrooms have touchless faucets that turn on and off automatically, minimizing waste.
The KCC Community Farm & Garden
Eating locally grown produce reduces the carbon footprint of food delivery – and you can’t get much more “local” than on campus! Work with other students to help the farm & garden grow and harvest, then take home FREE organic vegetables.
Campus Sustainability - 10 Year Plan
Kingsborough Community College is committed to help foster a more sustainable future. We have made significant progress to reduce our waste, become more energy efficient, and educate our campus community about how they can contribute to our sustainable goals. Goals for advancement are set forth in the Campus Sustainability 10-year Plan. This plan guides the college's green initiatives, using the seven pillars of sustainability set forth by the CUNY Sustainability Initiative and PlaNYC 2030 guidelines.
Please take the time to read our Plan and help Kingsborough fulfill its commitment to achieve these goals. If you would like to become involved in the college sustainability efforts or have any questions, please contact the Office of Vice President Rios at 718-368-5899.
