Celebrate LGBTQ History Month with Student Life throughout the month of October. Learn about the history of the LGBTQ+ community and the diverse identities and expressions that fall within the LGBTQ+ spectrum.

Event: Mucho Mucho Amor with Healer Nataley Renteria
Description: Do you like astrology? Learn about the most famous Puerto Rican astrologer that captured the lives of many around the world in Netflix’s documentary, Mucho Mucho Amor: The Legend of Walter Mercado. The event will have Nataley Renteria, a queer Afro-Colombian energy-worker and healer, speak on her work in the community. Students that participate in the event will enter a raffle to receive a free reading from Nataley Renteria.

Event: National Lesbian Day Art Performance
Description: Celebrate National Lesbian Day with performers Nia and Ness a Black, an out-lesbian couple and performance art duo, whose work serves as a visual-auditory diary of their daily lives.

Event: National Coming Out Day
Description: Join Safe Zone on National Coming Out Day to recognize members of the LGBTQ+ community that have openly “come out” or have been silenced because of their sexuality or gender identity/expression. Safe Zone will have members of the KCC community share their stories and present resources for students.

Event: International Pronoun Day & Disclosure Screening
Description: Join Safe Zone on International Pronouns Day which seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. Safe Zone will share resources and screen Netflix’s Disclosure, a documentary showcasing leading trans creatives and thinkers perspectives on Hollywood’s impact on trans representation. Students can also share their pronouns with the hashtag #KCCPronouns and tag @kccstudentlife.

Event: Spirit Day & Photo Collage
Description: Join KCC as we wear purple to support LGBTQ+ youth and to speak out against bullying. Spirit Day is the largest LGBTQ+ anti-bullying campaign in the world that started in 2010. KCC community can join the Zoom Meeting to take the pledge and group photo or can submit a photo with the hashtag #KCCSpiritDay and tag @kccstudentlife.

Event: IG Challenge: Vogue
Description: Strike a POSE! Send us your best voguing pose or ballroom walk! The Office of Student Life will select ­ONE winner for a $50 giveaway to the KCC Bookstore. Follow rules to enter!
Rules: In order to enter a chance win the $50 giveaway, participant must be a current KCC student, like the post, and follow @kccstudentlife. Choose one of the following options:

  1. If student’s IG account is PUBLIC: Tag @kccstudentlife in either an IG grid post or IG story.
  2. If student’s IG account is PRIVATE: DM @kccstudentlife your photo.

Winner must provide EmplID to receive prize. All entries agree to give The Office of Student permission to post their photo on their social media.

Event: Drag Queen IG Live
Description: Q & A with Brita Filter, the stage name of Jesse Havea, an American drag queen who has appeared on Shade: Queens of NYC and the twelfth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. Join in as Brita Filter discusses the history and impact of drag and NYC Ballroom.
