Developmental English/ESL

Developmental English courses at Kingsborough help to strengthen your reading, writing, and critical thinking abilities; they prepare you for Freshman English courses (English 12 and 24) and courses in other academic disciplines. Placement into developmental courses is determined by your scores on the CUNY entrance exams in reading (ACT Reading) and writing (CATW).

For non-native speakers in English, we offer a sequence of courses in English as a Second Language. ESL students who are new to Kingsborough may qualify for our Intensive ESL Program. Placement into ESL courses is determined by your scores on the CUNY entrance exams in reading (ACT Reading) and writing (CATW).
